BIG NEWS: We're breaking tradition at NCHS! For years, students, coaches, and faculty have been asking for an annual Homecoming celebration, and the NCCSC School Board has approved! Trojan Spirit is building as the students are planning a week full of dancing, dress-up days, a Homecoming Court, a Pep Rally Downtown, the “Green Jacket Ceremony,” an all-school cookout, a small parade, class contests, tailgating, and of course, the football game!
Because we still value our community connection, every four years, as in previous years, we will have a larger, Alumni focused Homecoming, with the huge parade, class reunions, and Alumni school tours. The Alumni Homecoming will be next September, 2025.
The First Annual Homecoming is the week of September 14-20, kicking off with the Homecoming Dance in the ArtsPark Saturday (14th) evening. The Dance is from 8-10:00 PM. Students can buy tickets ($15.00) during their lunch Wednesday, Sept. 4 to Friday, Sept.13. Our Homecoming King and Queen will be crowned at the dance. Alumnus Adam Hannon will DJ the Homecoming Dance and Pep Rally.
Dress up days include Pajama Day (Monday 16th), Pink & Black Day (Tuesday 17th), Hawaiian Day (Wednesday 18th), Green & White Day (Thursday 19th), & we’ll end the week out with USA Red/White/Blue for Game Day (Friday the 20th).
The Powderpuff game will be played on Neal Field Tuesday (17th) during the All-School-Cookout & Class Contests. Freshmen and Juniors will wear black, while Sophomores and Seniors will wear pink. Students are welcome to bring cash for various vendors, chosen activities, and club fundraisers.
Community and family members are welcome to attend Wednesday evening (18th) events, as students will travel in a parade at 6:30 PM from the Fieldhouse to the Courthouse Downtown for a Pep Rally at 7:30. New Castle Main Street is sponsoring the Parade, and planning the Pep Rally. The Football Team, Cheerleaders and other NCHS teams will join in the parade (if they choose). Students are designing floats and assigning cars for the Homecoming Court. The Trojan Marching Band and Guard will be marching and performing at the Pep Rally.
Thursday (19th) at 2:00 PM, Bundy Auditorium will be open to the public for the Annual Achievement Day Celebration. Our top 27 academic seniors of NCHS will receive their Green Jackets and rings to honor their accomplishments. High ranking juniors will also receive recognition of their climbing GPAs.
On Friday (20th) students will finalize their week of celebration with a Convocation in Bundy Auditorium. Guest speaker Craig Tornquist, our Freshmen Mentor Trainer and comedian, will take the stage for laughter, team building, and connection.
Of course, the culmination of Homecoming week is the football game (20th). Students are invited to a Tailgate Party at 5:00 PM in the Fieldhouse parking lot; all proceeds will benefit the NCHS Internship program. Pregame starts promptly at 6:45 PM, as the Trojan Marching Band will play the school song and the Football players take the field. Kickoff is at 7:00 PM against the Yorktown High School Tigers. It should be a tightly scored and energetic game. We’ll be seeing green from both sides of the field; thus the student body will be wearing red white and blue to differentiate themselves from their rivals. We would love for our community to fill the stands in support, and show up in their favorite Trojan Green & White apparel. The mighty Trojans are prepared for their Delaware County rivals!
After the big game, and now all future home games, Blue River TapHouse, Ky’s American Bistro, and Ink & Ale will open their doors to the community for the “Fifth Quarter.” They will offer special menu and drink items for cheers (or tears) of a hard-played game. We are grateful for their assistance and support of NCHS extracurricular activities.
At New Castle, we pride ourselves on tradition; it connects us to the past. But sometimes breaking tradition and pursuing new ones pushes us to build a better community. We are Built on Tradition, and Focused on the Future. We are New Castle High School, and we’ve chosen to “Celebrate our People” annually. Please join us for Homecoming 2024.
