Wilbur Wright’s third, fourth and fifth grade Focus classes took a two-day trip to Dearborn, Michigan, to encounter a living museum, The Henry Ford. Students, chaperones, bus drivers, and teachers walked through a large town modeled after the young lives of Henry Ford, the Wright brothers, Thomas Edison, and other famous Americans.
On their first day, students toured Greenfield Village, when 1900s technology was at the peak of innovation. The living time capsule boasted horse-drawn carriages, Model T's, working steam engines, life on the farm, women's ingenuity, homes of famous Americans, and factory life.
The classes enjoyed a hearty meal at the Golden Corral and a restful night at the Holiday Inn to mark the special evening. Chaperones were prepared to wary a long night, but to their surprise, the children fell asleep immediately! With a good night's sleep and a buffet breakfast, the adventurers headed back towards their second destination at The Henry Ford, the Museum of American Innovation.
Students got to see the Wilbur Wright Flyer, sit inside Rosa Parks’ Bus, explore presidential vehicles, and interact with hundreds of American inventions. Appreciating the trail blazed in the past, encouraged the students to discover their own future paths.
New Castle Schools is very grateful for our Focus teachers, and the opportunities they have brought to their students. Perhaps this trip has inspired the next Henry Ford or Wilbur Wright in Henry County.
