5th Grade Focus class wearing Greek Chitons

Mrs. Dye's 5th Grade Focus Class is not wearing togas. They are wearing Greek chitons! Togas, they discovered, are Roman. Learning all about Greek culture, including mythology, architecture, science, math and the arts, the Wilbur Wright Focus students have explored multiple avenues in Greek eduction for the past four weeks. The class was separated into small groups to represent the Hellas Greek city-states, or poleis: Athens, Argos, Corinth, Megara and Sparta. Each (singular) polis earned points towards Grecian domination as they climbed the educational ladder in each event.

This week they are celebrating Greek Theatre, and each polis must interpret and perform a famous tragedy, comedy or historical play. Students have performed Antigone, Medea, Frogs, Oresteia, and have started Oedipus Rex as an entire class. Though slightly struggling in pronouncing Greek names, they have nailed dramatic flair, and brought tremendous laughter to classroom observers.

Next week, the Hellas will compete in the Olympics to wrap up their unit. Mrs. Dye and her Ball State Student Teacher, Ms. Watts, have worked hard to make these weeks memorable for our rising Trojans.
