New Castle Festival: It Isn’t Rocket Science... Or Is It?
The 2023-2024 school year brought a new ensemble to the New Castle Middle School Music Department in the form of a competitive middle school percussion ensemble. The High School Ensemble has been competing for almost 15 years and has made multiple state finals appearances as well as 2 state championships in its tenure. Now the percussion program is looking to expand this award winning tradition to the middle school.
The NCMS Percussion Ensemble have been hard at work creating and perfecting their show entitled “Rocket Science." The students set the scene of a science lab with all the complicated gizmos, mixtures, and technology that comes with a working lab through harsh harmonies contrasted by steady and predictable rhythms overlaid by a groovy melody.
Both ensembles compete in the Indiana Percussion Association’s competitive circuit. The Middle School Ensemble received a gold rating at the very first contest on February 17th at Carroll High School, and hope to repeat that rating in March at Brownsburg High School.
