NCHS teachers and students working in a small groups for Plus Time

New Time, New Learning: Introducing Plus Time

Remember that old "free period" some schools have? Well, things are different here at New Castle High School! We're using a new program called Plus Time to make sure students get the most out of Trojan Connect Time every day during 4th hour.

How Does It Work?

Our teachers use Plus Time to design special "Academic Opportunity Sessions" in their classrooms. Students are able to pick which sessions will help them most each day of each week. Maybe they need help in a certain subject or want to catch up on missing work – there will be sessions for that!

Teachers can also schedule students into sessions as needed. Students might get invited to a group project, SAT practice session, or even hear from a special guest speaker! This way, every student gets a personalized Trojan Connect Time schedule that changes depending on what they need that week!

Plus Time = Endless Possibilities

Plus Time lets teachers and students work together in creative ways.  NCHS teachers are already coming up with amazing ideas for sessions, clubs, and projects. We are only just beginning to see the amazing learning opportunities being created as New Castle High School begins to dream big with this flexible “Plus” Time.

Here are some comments from our amazing teachers:

Plus Time allows students who have missing work or have been absent to get caught up.  It allows students time to improve their grades and complete work with extra teacher support. - Megan Stilwell (Math Teacher)

The new plus time during TCT has been a blessing for me and my students. A lot of grades are improving. - Casey Cecil (Math Teacher)

“One thing I love about the Plus Time scheduler is that I can literally assign a student minutes before TCT begins. I had students practicing speeches together; both were assigned to different study halls, but they wanted to continue to practice. I simply went to the scheduler and pulled them into my class so they could continue to practice for an extra thirty minutes.” - Susan Delay (English and Social Studies Teacher)

I find that using Plus Time has helped make my TCT period much more productive, and I can focus on students who I need to help, but don't always have time to meet with me one-on-one during a regular class period. - Raeanne Yatska (Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher)
