Mathematics

The eighth grade Math 8 curriculum continues to build and strengthen those concepts and skills introduced at the seventh grade level. The emphasis is on developing mathematical skills and concepts in the context of sound algebraic fundamentals. The eight grade course of study will develop operations on real numbers while constantly stressing their applications to real world problems. Both geometric algebraic models will be used. Other topics of study: solving equations, probability, geometry, statistics, graphing, and the real number system.

Math 8 Honors

Mathematics 8 Honors is offered to those students who have finished the seventh grade math curriculum with highly developed skills in basic math principals and have demonstrated an ability to excel in Pre-Algebra topics. The curriculum includes all those topics covered in Math 8, but will delve more deeply into math applications and take a closer look at Algebra readiness. This class is perfect for the student who has an interest in mathematics, in general, and enjoys problem solving. Math 8 Honors is designed for students who will be taking Algebra IC as freshmen.

ALGEBRA IC

This course is offered for an seventh grade math student who has demonstrated superior skills in Pre-Algebra concepts along with mastery of basic math skills, may apply for Algebra IC in the spring of his/her 7th grade year. After a rigorous screening of ISTEP math scores, ALEKS scores, math grades, teacher recommendations, and Algebra Readiness test, those who are deemed ready for this classic math class are selected. This is the same Algebra IC that is traditionally offered in high school at the freshman level. Each student may earn up to 2 high school graduation credits.

ALGEBRA IIC

This course is only offered to students who complete Algebra IC as a seventh grade student. This is the same Algebra IIC that is traditionally offered in high school at the sophomore level. Each student may earn up to 2 high school graduation credits.
