Social Studies

The Social Studies Department at N.C.H.S. offers a wide variety of classes to meet the various needs and interests of Students. Classes offered in the Social Studies area include Anthropology, Current Problems, Economics, Geography and History of the World, Introduction to Social Sciences, Law Education, Psychology, Sociology, United States Government, United States History, World Geography, World History, and World History Honors.

The state of Indiana requires students to acquire a minimum of four credits in the Social Studies Area for a Graduation Diploma and/or a Core Forty Diploma. These four credits are taken in the junior and senior years. Two credits come from U.S. History. One credit comes from U.S. Government. The final credit comes from Economics.

In order to graduate with an Academic Honors Diploma, the state of Indiana requires students to acquire a minimum of six credits in the Social Studies Area for graduation. In addition to required courses in U.S. History, U.S. Government and Economics, Social Studies credits must include courses with a major emphasis on Geography and/or World History.
