This is Dr. Shoemaker, Superintendent of the New Castle School Corporation. Today it was reported that one of our middle school students made a threat of violence. The threat was verbal, did not include the names of any other students or groups and was actually made last evening while the student was off campus. The threat was thoroughly investigated by our School Resource Officers with full cooperation from the student’s family. The police determined that the threat was not credible. Regardless, the student will not return to school. Parents, I would encourage you to talk with your children and explain that they are responsible for their actions and words, both in school and out of school. All school and corporation activities remain unchanged and will proceed as scheduled tomorrow. We are grateful for the cooperation of the student’s family, the student who reported what they heard, and to all of you for your support.
