Dear Sunnyside Parents:

Welcome to Sunnyside Elementary and the 2011-2012 school year.  As the principal at Sunnyside, I promise that your child will learn in a loving and caring environment.  My goal is to maintain the same type of positive attitude toward learning that has become the “Sunnyside Way.”

Sunnyside Elementary offers a variety of activities that students and parents can be involved with throughout the school year:  monthly Skating Parties, Fall Festival, Grandparents Week, Variety Show, Scholastic Book Fair, and more.  Please be sure to become a part of PTO.  It takes all of us, working together, to create positive experiences for the children and families of Sunnyside.

Faculty and staff team up to provide instructional environments and activities that are best suited for your child’s needs.  As part of the New Castle Community School Corporation, your child takes part in Success Periods everyday.  The periods are designed to ensure that students have every opportunity to master state standards. Success periods also provide enrichment opportunities for students who have mastered grade level standards.  Aside from the customary grade level studies, students also participate in art, music, physical education, and library/computer time each week.  

We welcome the Sunnyside Kindergarten Academy - new to Sunnyside this year.  The academy offers the opportunity for students from three different schools (Riley, Sunnyside & Westwood) to attend a full-day kindergarten program.  The kindergarten program includes a 90 minute literacy block, Success periods, music, art and physical education classes.  Students also have the opportunity to participate in library activities that include computer literacy skills. 

It is my pleasure to serve the students and families of Sunnyside.  It is my goal, as principal,  that each student be inspired by classroom activities, programs, and the individuals they work with each day at Sunnyside.  Please do not hesitate to call or stop in should you need my assistance.
