District Makes the Grade

District Makes the Grade!

The federal No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 requires public schools to make Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP) in the areas of English/Language Arts and Math. In addition, schools must meet annual goals in attendance and graduation rates. If these areas improve annually according to the state’s criteria, schools achieve AYP. If not, they are placed on a path for improvement by the state. New Castle Community Schools has received preliminary notification that the district once again passed AYP.

In addition to AYP, the Indiana DOE uses Public Law 221 to assess schools, assigning a letter grade of A-F depending on the school’s progress. Again, preliminary results indicate New Castle Community Schools have done well. Four schools received an “A” for Exemplary Progress and the high school received a “B” for Commendable Progress. Students and staff worked hard to make this happen and the district thanks everyone for doing their part!
